Sprinkling smarter with real-time soil data

We used to do it on routine, now we do it on data. It saves fuel, time and water.

Pieter Tromp, onion grower (Overijssel)

How Agurotech helped Pieter Tromp save water, time and costs.

Onion grower Pieter Tromp of Overijssel uses Agurotech’s soil sensors to better determine when irrigation is really needed.
He monitors a total of 11 hectares, divided into two plots, and wanted to avoid unnecessary irrigation – a hefty cost in fuel, labor and water.

“I no longer have to doubt whether I’m too early or too late. The sensor shows what is really happening in the soil.”

Agurotech’s soil sensor and app allow Pieter to track real-time soil moisture and weather data.
The insights give him the confidence to delay irrigation when conditions allow – saving time, water and energy without affecting the crop.

Results
€2,600 saved in the first season

Two unnecessary sprinklers over 11 acres paid for the hardware within five months, allowing the grower to save additional costs by further rolling out the system.

2 rounds of sprinkling prevented

“In an average year, the sensor gives me the confidence to hold off on watering,” says Pieter. “As a result, I use less water and save time and energy. Moreover, I know that the crop is not lacking anything.”

€190 profit per hectare per year

With the system in place, growers achieve structural savings and more efficient water use each year, depending on seasonal conditions.

Agurotech takes away the guesswork.
