How Karsjan increases yields up to 10 tons per acre with Agurotech sensors.
With twelve sensors scattered across his potato, onion and chicory plots, Karsjan monitors moisture levels and fine-tunes his irrigation to the needs of the soil. In this way, he prevents stress moments in cultivation and keeps moisture in balance, even in dry periods.
“I used to just make my regular round with the reel. Now I know exactly which plot really needs water – and that’s reflected in the quality.”
The result: 5-10 tons higher yield per hectare and much more consistent quality. The proportion of tare – the part of the crop that is not marketable – fell from about 10% to just 2.5% on one of his onion plots. He also saved water, fuel and time by using irrigation only where it was really needed. The plots remained healthier, with less disease pressure and better soil structure.
